The Research and Development Cell is established to promote research activities. The cell will monitor and administer Research programs (Ph.D/M.S. by research /M.Phil) offered by the University. Research and Development cell will initiate the following specific activities for monitoring and Evaluation of Candidates admitted for Ph.D / M .Phil /M.S. by Research Programs in all Faculties of the University. |

Eligibility and Admission of candidates
| Admission shall be open to Internal or External candidates who fulfill the following requirements: |
 |
Admissions for the Research Programs (Ph.D / M.S. by Research / M. Phil) shall be made by Coordinator, Admissions, J.N.T.University Hyderabad by conducting written test or interview or both. |
 |
Candidates must have passed the Post Graduate Degree Examination of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University or an examination recognized as equivalent, in the discipline concerned, with a minimum 50% marks in the concerned subject. |
 |
Regular faculty members of J.N.T. University, who possess the minimum Academic qualifications shall be deemed as internal candidates. |
 |
Candidates who have been working for at least one year in well equipped Educational / Scientific / R & D/ Industrial / Government Organizations and engaged in Scientific / Technological / Engineering / Managerial activities, as the case may be possessing the minimum academic qualifications, shall be deemed as external candidates. |
 |
Candidates admitted under Fellowship Research Programme or Self – Supporting Programme shall be deemed as Full-Time Research Scholars and they have to work Full-Time for their Ph.D. Programme in any Constituent Units of JNTU. |

| Full- time research scholars are eligible for monthly scholarship. The Research and Development cell disburses the scholarship amount after scrutinizing the monthly performance/attendance reports of the scholars. |
 |
All the fee payments shall be made at the office of Director, R & D Cell, in the form of bank draft drawn in favor of Registrar, JNTU Hyderabad. The R & D Cell will maintain Receipt books, cash book, details of financial transactions etc. The original certificates and admission folio of the candidate shall be maintained by the office of the Research & Development cell, till the completion of the research program of the respective candidates. |

A Student Admission Number, which will also be the Hall Ticket number, will be assigned to the candidate. An Identity Card for the exclusive use of Library facilities will be given to each candidate, by the Research & Development cell. |

Doctoral Committee for Change of Topic / Supervisor(s) and Research related issues.
 |
If a candidate wants to change the topic or supervisor/s or any research related issue it should be done with the approval of a Doctoral Committee (DC). For this purpose the candidate should apply in the prescribed format and submit to the Director, R & D Cell. The Doctoral Committee for each faculty shall consist of 2 expert members having Ph.D. degree from the faculty or industry with Coordinator, R & D Cell as Convener. The DC will be formed by the Director, R & D Cell, with the approval of the Vice- Chancellor. |

The application from the candidate for change of topic / supervisor/s shall be endorsed by the supervisor/s. If the application is for change of supervisor, the letters of No Objection from both, old and proposed supervisor/s should be submitted. Bio-data of the new supervisor/s also should be attached with the application, with relevant documents as prescribed at the time of application. The DC will examine the application and give its recommendation. |

Research Review Committee for Review of Progress of Research Work.

For the purpose of monitoring the progress, all the Research candidates including those who are on the current rolls of JNTU for Ph.D / M.S / M. Phil, have to submit Annual Report of their Research work in duplicate in prescribed format, such that one should be with the supervisor/s, second copy has to be sent with endorsement by supervisor/s to the Director, R & D Cell. |

Research Review Committee (RRC): The Research & Development Cell will monitor yearly progress of the candidates through Annual Research Review meetings to be organized at any of the units of JNTU. All the candidates should make a power point presentation of the work before a 3 member RRC. RRC evaluates the progress of the candidates |

In addition, half - yearly written statements about progress and status of Research work are to be submitted by the candidate to the Director, R & D Cell in the prescribed format. The RRC shall review the progress and make appropriate recommendations. |

Course work and Pre - Ph.D. Examination.
| The Ph.D. Programme is aimed at giving a broad based training in the concerned field in addition to specialization in a particular area. |
 |
A minimum of two courses shall be prescribed in the relevant field of research for the Pre-Ph.D. examination from the approved list of Pre-Ph.D subjects (Please refer to Annexure) see and panel of examiners recommended by the Supervisor or Supervisors as the case may be, and to be communicated by the Director / Principal of the College concerned to the Director, Research and Development for the approval of the subjects and panel of examiners. |

The candidates are required to pass in these two courses; the minimum marks required for a pass in each course shall be 50%. In case a candidate fails to pass in three attempts his admission shall be cancelled. |
 |
The Pre-Ph.D. examination shall be held after six months and before twelve months from the date of admission. |
|
Fee Particulars.
 |
On selection for admission, candidates shall be required to pay the prescribed fee and deposits.
Thereafter the registration fee has to be paid on stipulated dates, regularly every year, till the successful completion of the Programme and submission of thesis or cancellation of the admission as the case may be.
Non-payment of the prescribed fee in-time may lead to the cancellation of admission.. |

Duration of research program.
 |
After passing the pre-Ph.D. examination and completion of two years from the date of admission, the candidate is eligible for submission of the thesis. |
 |
For the candidate to submit the thesis for Ph.D., he shall have at least one paper published/accepted for publication in reputed journal which has to be enclosed to the thesis. The candidate can also submit the thesis, if he has at least one recognized patent rights, whose details are to be enclosed. |
|
The candidates should complete the research work within 6 years. They should pay tuition fee until the end of the semester in which the thesis is submitted. If the Tuition Fee is not paid as per rules, penalty may be levied by the Director, R and D Cell. If Tuition Fee is not paid continuously for 2 years the registration will be cancelled. |
|
If the candidate fails to complete the work in six years he /she has to take special permission from the University and make required payments of regular tuition fee and other fee, if any, as decided by the University. |
|
For M.Phil. and M.S. candidates, the maximum duration of the program will be four years. After passing the pre M.Phil / M.S. examination and completion of at least one year from the date of admission, M.Phil and M.S. candidates are eligible for submission of the thesis. |

The same guidelines are also applicable to all the Research Scholars registered prior to the academic year 2006-2007 for Ph.D. / M.S by Research / M.Phil. Program. |

Preparation of the thesis/disseration

Size and copies:
The Dissertation should be submitted in A4 size paper and 6 copies of the thesis and synopsis are required to be submitted to the Director, R&D cell along with panel of Examiners (sealed cover) duly signed by supervisor and co-supervisor. The thesis submission form should be filled and submitted along with the necessary fee and enclosures |

Paper, Typing & Format:
Bond paper should be used for the preparation of the Thesis. Typing should be done on the 12 font size letter, Bookman old style. The lay-out should provide 1 ½ inch on the left side, 1 inch on top and bottom 1 inch on the right side. Fresh Para should commence after five spaces. Double spacing shall be provided throughout the dissertation / thesis. The page number shall be indicated at the top middle of the each page. |
